So there likely could be if a company devoted resources (given the history with Deepmind / Starcraft). But given the feat has already been accomplished in SC, the incentive for a company to devote resources here seems minimal.
I think there are 2 cases for a "Yes" outcome:
1. MSFT is testing gaming AIs and wants to train one on one of their games (i.e., AoE). But why not use AoE IV instead?
2. Technology develops such that individuals / small groups can train gaming AIs enough to beat a human on AoE II...that seems somewhat aggressive? And I'm not sure to what extent you need cooperation with the developer to develop this AI?
