This market predicts whether U.S. Vice President JD Vance will have an official meeting with Pope Leo XIV before July 1, 2025. Pope Leo XIV, formerly Robert Francis Prevost, was elected on May 8, 2025, becoming the first American pope. Given their shared nationality and previous interactions, a meeting between Vance and Pope Leo XIV is plausible. Resolution will be based on official announcements from the Vatican or the U.S. Vice President's office.
Did this market jump up because of the reports that Vance & Rubio would travel for Leo XIV's inauguration? I imagine lots of world leaders will travel for that and the Pope can't have an official meeting with all of them.
IMHO it would be a bad look for the new Pope to have a meeting with only the American delegation. The Pope is explicitly supposed to not be tied to any specific country, regardless of their "shared nationality". The Catholic Church is supposed to transcend that. Why do you think the Vatican is its own country inside Italy? So this market at >60% seems kinda weird to me.
