I’m a freshman in college and the bicycles and scooters have very different behavior here than I’m used to. Specifically, my tendency to freeze/flinch/run away when high velocity objects approach seems to confuse them and I’ve been somewhat close to being hit.

On the other hand, where I grew up bicyclists paid no attention whatsoever and would often text and bike, etc. At my college the bicyclists pay more attention but rented motorized scooters are very popular and simultaneously nontrivial to control and very fast.

For context: I have been hit by bicycles twice that I can recall, both slightly away from home but still in California. Once was unambiguously not my fault as the person was out of control and crashed into a group of people including me. The other time was more my fault as my reactions got in the way, but it was someone in racing attire biking for reasons other than convenience, which doesn’t really happen often. I have been hit multiple times by snowboarders or skiers.

RESOLUTION CRITERIA NOTE: Will only resolve yes if some part of the offending vehicle makes contact with me; a crash where only the rider actually touches me does not count. It also does not count if the collision is premeditated. And as per the title, if I go home and get hit by a bike outside of Providence RI it doesn’t count. Any disputes are ultimately resolved according to my judgement.
