I read about 20 books every year, excluding books consulted for work.
Here are my statistics, going back to when I first started tracking a reading list:

2017: 17
2018: 20
2019: 21

2020: 24

2021: 24

2022: 20
2023: 10

Books: The above refers to literal reading, not audiobooks. I don't count magazines as books. I do count shorter books as books (e.g., Snow - The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution or Von Neumanm - The Computer and The Brain). In any given year, the bulk of my book reading consists of nonfiction in the 200-300 page range, plus a handful of longer fiction books.

I significantly slowed down in 2023 due to demanding jobs (Assistant Professor + scientific advisor to a startup) and shifting my reading focus to substack + print magazines. But I intend to read 20+ books in 2024 by using my free time better.

I will bet this market up to nearly 100% to hold myself accountable.
You should fully expect to lose mana if you bet NO: I am incentivized to go through with this new year resolution.
I will resolve this market truthfully and share a reading list at the end of the year, plus periodic updates if requested.

I reserve the right to N/A if dramatic life events interfere with this goal.
